A Relaxed Summer Family Photoshoot in Central London: Indoor and Outdoor Memories
This was my second family photoshoot with Esther and her daughter, and it was such a pleasure to see how much she had grown in just over a year. This time, Grandpa and Dad joined the session too, making it a wonderful opportunity to capture three generations together.
As a London family photographer, I love documenting families as they grow and change over the years. Seeing returning clients always feels extra special because there is already a sense of trust and familiarity.
It was a warm summer morning, so we decided to start with the outdoor part of the photoshoot before the midday sun became too strong. We met in a charming local English garden, where shady pathways and blooming roses provided a beautiful backdrop. Rather than rushing from pose to pose, we enjoyed a relaxed walk beneath the trees before letting the little one explore the open grass.
After taking a few timeless family portraits, we paused for some play. The little girl giggled as she chased Dad with bubbles while everyone joined in the fun. She counted tiny flowers growing in the grass and searched excitedly for squirrels hiding among the rose bushes. Those spontaneous moments are often my favourites because they reflect a family’s real personality and connection.
One thing I’ve learned through family photography in London is that the best location isn’t always the most famous landmark or Instagram-worthy spot. Some of the most meaningful sessions take place somewhere deeply personal—a neighbourhood park your children visit every week, the streets where you take your daily walks, or simply the comfort of your own home.
Your family photos should tell your unique story, not follow a standard formula.
After enjoying the fresh air outside, we continued the session indoors at Esther’s home. The soft natural light pouring through the living room windows created the perfect setting for relaxed family portraits, proving that beautiful images don’t require an elaborate backdrop. We played a few simple games, shared cuddles on the sofa, and captured quiet interactions that felt genuine and unhurried.
I love combining indoor and outdoor family photography because it creates a gallery with variety and balance. Outdoor images capture movement, exploration, and play, while indoor photographs often feel intimate, cosy, and full of everyday memories that families will cherish for years to come.
Before I left, Esther’s husband kindly made me a delicious cup of coffee. It was such a thoughtful gesture and gave me a welcome boost before heading home to spend the afternoon with my own family.
I’m always grateful when families choose me to photograph them again. Being invited back means I can witness children growing up and preserve each new chapter of their lives. For returning clients, the familiarity also helps everyone feel more relaxed in front of the camera, allowing me to capture natural moments that are authentic, joyful, and timeless.
If you’re looking for a relaxed summer family photoshoot in London, whether in your favourite local park, at home, or a combination of both, I’d love to help you create photographs that reflect your family just as you are.
